Dr Ying-Qing Xu is a Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professor and Co-Director of the International Tangible Interaction Design Lab (ITIDLab) at Tsinghua University, Beijing China.

At Tsinghua, his teaching and research are in HCI (human computer interaction), information design, computer graphics, e-heritage, and natural user interfaces. Prior to joining Tsinghua, Dr Xu was a Lead Researcher for Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA, Beijing China). He was also a Director of the Microsoft Digital Cartoon and Animation Laboratory of Beijing Film Academy. During his time with Microsoft, he contributed to both academic research and product development and led MSRA’s animation team in a breakthrough effort to automatically generate high-quality animation from user-provided images. Dr Xu and his team have not only generated the intellectual properties - as embodied by a dozen granted patents - but also deployed their technology into products used by millions of users.
